MAKE YOUR OWN TRADITIONAL TILE
Prepare a slab, fire it to 1200o celcius in the kiln. Glaze it, paint it with ceramic colors and add your own imagination and a dash of history. Fire it again in the kiln to fuse the colors and your design. Bring it back as a unique souvenir you cannot find anywhere else in the world.
Handicraft, also called artisanry, is all about making useful and decorative things with your hands, using only the simplest, and at times traditional, of devices.
Tile-making has been closely related to human cultural development and expression for hundreds of years. While the rest of the world painted on canvas, the Portuguese made equally fantastic pieces of art  on tiles. The tiles are called Azulejos and the style and method of creation date back more than 500 years.
This activity will carry you on a journey, exploring the history and the art of Portuguese tile painting.
You will be travelling in an historical vehicle, breathing in the smells and experiencing the sounds close to the asphalt.
Become inspired by visiting the buildings with the most beautiful Azulejos in Lisbon. Then continue the activity with a tile workshop, making your own Azulejo, your own unique masterpiece.

MORE INFORMATION

All necessary equipment for the ride around Lisbon and the tile painting is included. Dress appropriate, with a jacket for the wind. The tile you make in the workshop will be given to you to bring back home as a memory.
